A Room in the Ocotea Boutique Hotel- What to Expect
A while ago we posted some articles about the unique and sustainable architecture and design that went into the Ocotea Boutique Hotel in beautiful Monteverde.
We talked about the simple yet elegant designs that cleverly use light and shadow as design elements and the locally sourced and sustainable materials that leave the lightest possible footprint on our environment.
But now it’s time to look more practically at what you can expect to find when you stay in one of our rooms!
“Boutique” for a Reason
First of all, it's important to understand that we are not a large hotel, owned by a corporation or chain with a hundred rooms that all look the same. We are small on purpose because it is our belief that the experience should always come first and the best customer service can be achieved in a more intimate setting.
Our staff-to-customer ratio means that you can expect personal service from people who know your name and are actively invested in your happiness and comfort. That's why the Ocotea Boutique Hotel has a total of 21 rooms.
These rooms were built with a modern design that makes the most of the scenic and natural beauty of the Monteverde area, by using textures, colors, and delicate finishes that complement them.
The natural wood accents make it a cozy but elegant space. The large windows give guests the opportunity to admire the green landscapes of the imposing cloud forest, the colorful sunsets, and the frequent rainbows that characterize the area.
Each room has its own charm, but what they all have in common is harmony with nature so you can rest comfortably while listening to the birds singing outside your window.
Our hotel is made up of two buildings connected by walkways and surrounded by gardens. Building 1 has a total of 15 rooms, 11 Dosel on the second floor, and 4 Sotobosque on the ground floor.
Building 2 houses 6 rooms, the Ocotea- our very best- 2 Dosel on the second floor and 3 Sotobosque on the ground floor.
The Ocotea Room
This is our very best room, designed with couples in mind. Tucked into a quiet corner with its own private balcony and a view of the beautiful Ocotea tree in the back garden, it’s the perfect place to relax in comfort. At any given time of day, there is beauty and life to be seen in that tree!
The room itself contains a king-sized bed and a full soaking tub where you can pamper yourself with amazingly rich and soothing lotions and shampoos made locally using natural ingredients.
We provide our guests with simple, elegant spaces with fewer distractions because we believe that the quality and simplicity of the design and the space itself allow for greater relaxation and imbue a sense of calm.
You will find everything you need, such as;
- a shower,
- a soaking tub,
- Hairdryer,
- Safe deposit box,
- Telephone with complimentary local and international calls,
- HD digital television,
- Complimentary in-room coffee and tea service,
- Complimentary minibar,
- Complimentary Wifi,
- Reading area and writing desk,
- Private fully furnished terrace
… and nothing that you don’t. Simple design elements like wooden rods and shelves incorporated into the wood panels take the place of a bulky closet and reduce clutter so you can focus on the view, and the “ahhhh.”
Sotobosque Rooms
The word “Sotobosque” refers to undergrowth or “under the canopy” and it’s the name we have given to our ground-floor rooms.
Here you will also find all of the rich finishes, the smooth lines, the elegant hand-crafted tiles in the bathrooms, the native wood panels, and the delicate lampshades woven from natural fibers that set Ocotea apart.
You will also find all of the same thoughtful amenities and personal touches. Sotobosque rooms come with either a king-size bed or 2 queen beds with the added feature of walk-out terraces only steps away from the beauty of the gardens and the sound of the birds. They provide accessibility to those with mobility issues and a closeness to nature that can only be enjoyed with a flung-open door and a soft, scented breeze.
Dosel Rooms
The word “dosel” refers to the canopy or the unconnected branches and leaves that soar high above us, and it is the name we have given to our second-floor rooms.
With 2 queen beds or 1 king, and wide sliding glass doors that lead out to a fully-furnished terrace, they are the perfect place to rest and recuperate. Comfortable chairs put you eye level with the colorful birds and meandering lizards that can provide hours of entertainment.
Soft beds with cool and luxurious bedding will provide an amazing night’s sleep, and the minibar and reading/writing area will allow you a private and soothing place to work without interruptions.
We are very proud of our rooms, and the comfort they provide, but honestly, we hope you are so enthralled with everything that Monteverde has to offer that you leave them occasionally and enjoy the personal service and culinary genius of Nectandra… or the stunning sunset views and delicious cocktails of the Rooftop Terrace.
We Believe in Service
There is much more to us than elegant and relaxing rooms. We believe that your vacation should provide everything you need to let go of the stresses of day-to-day life, nourish your body, soak in the recuperative powers of nature, and capture your imagination.
That's why we also provide massage services and other soothing treatments right in room #1, the culinary skills of Roberto Cruz and his team who provide spectacular farm-to-table dishes that showcase the best of Costa Rica, and a full concierge service.
Our service doesn’t stop when you walk out our door. We can help book tours, transportation, and dinner reservations- whatever your taste- and more. Our friendly staff love to share their favorite destinations or adventures with our guests so that you get to see the best of Monteverde.
