To those familiar with Costa Rica’s international reputation, this recognition from the Forbes Staff comes as little surprise — throughout last year, Costa Rica was acknowledged as not just one of the best destinations in Central America, but in the world as well.
A Place We’d Love to Share

But what’s so promising for our small, thriving nation is that for all Costa Rica’s reputation as an ecological force, there is so much more to offer here.
Growing cultural, culinary, and adventure tourism have come to complement the ecotourism that has led the way. Small towns like Monteverde are a fantastic example — once considered a remote mountain town for only the most adventurous biologists and bird watchers, today it has become a thriving town with a rich history, a happening food scene, and a growing reputation as a destination for musicians and artists.
Just like Monteverde, so many others have carved out unique identities that draw visitors from all around the world. And Costa Rica’s continued investments in sustainable infrastructure and education continue to push the country forward.
Looking ahead to 2023, it’s exciting to hear such glowing praise from those around the world. But to those of us who have lived here, we know that this is just the beginning.
