Building Local Luxury
Do you ever wish we could go back in time to when life moved a little slower, communities were a little closer, and people appreciated the detail, time, and effort that went into something more than the brand name on its label?

While it is not my habit to write these posts from a personal place, this post is a little bit special. I recently had a bit of an epiphany, and it happened while seated in a big comfortable chair, early in the morning, in Ocotea’s back garden.
December 24th marked the first anniversary of the Ocotea Boutique Hotel, and passing that milestone naturally makes us think back on the events of the past year and reflect. We are happy to say, our first year has been spectacular, and we couldn’t be more proud of the wonderful team of people who have made that possible.
In our last post, we met Roberto, the artist behind all the deliciousness of our breakfasts at Nectandra Restaurant in the Ocotea Boutique Hotel.
One of the most beautiful things about a boutique hotel is the personalization you find behind every detail.
That feeling of welcome, of coming home, makes all the difference to a weary traveller after a long hot day. Luckily, Costa Rica has a strong family base when it comes to tourism.
Karen Fallas is "petite," with big intelligent eyes and a strength that you can witness if you are lucky enough to have a long conversation with this prodigious woman and her daughter Valeria. I myself was lucky to met her more than a decade ago. I worked as a travel agent, and she worked for a hotel that we used for our passengers. Little did I know then the treasure behind this amiable girl.
